About Me
Hello there I am Helen, a Wirral (UK) -based artist, exploring the world of painting and illustration.
I have dipped in and out of creating art for as long as I can remember, however it wasnt until 2022, after being made redundant whilst pregnant from my job in fashion that I began to explore art more ‘seriously’.
I have always been inspired by the illustrative, print and graphic work of Andy Warhol amongst many others, I have always loved to draw - in a very loose and sketchy way - but was lacking a consistent source I felt inspired to draw from. I had been doing various print making courses and experimenting with cyanotyping, however I missed the instantaneous nature of image making with ink pen, paint and paper, and found the abstract nature my printing and cyanotype practice a little too serious and technical. This made me cast out a search as to what kind of artist I could be…
I came across NYC artist Ben Lenovitz’s profile on Instagram, whose work I resonated with immediately, both visually and conceptually. I loved the humor, joy and personality he conveyed through his drawings and in particular, his pet portraits. Instantly, I gave a quick portrait a go myself - Elvis, my friends cat - who then commissioned me (my friend, not Elvis!) another portrait of her uncle’s late dog, Alfie. I was hooked….
I am a sentimental soul, and I have found real joy painting something personal and meaningful, that has brought real joy to someone else. I have no pets (I’m allergic to cats!), but will be happily available to spend my days, making yours, into works of art.
Xx
